A basketball club dedicated to the development of Farwell Area Schools girls

FAQ:

Not finding your question answered? Email us at flames@hoopzonebasketball.com

What is FLAMES BASKETBALL CLUB?
A non profit Club designed to give girls the opportunity to develop in basketball by practicing and playing in leagues and tournaments traveling throughout central Michigan.  This team plays in the school’s off season time.

Is it only for Farwell girls?
Yes it is.  Every Farwell athlete has the opportunity to tryout for a team to better our program.  If any team has a hard time filling a roster then they could go outside Farwell to pick someone up but Farwell girls get priority,

How much is it?
Each team’s cost varies based on their involvement in the format of games to be played.  This cost will be discussed by the coach of each team.  The younger teams may cost $50. a season per athlete while older teams may have to pay $100. plus to participate.  Each team may also find sponsors to help cover the cost.  Some girls may be eligible for a money grant if financial needs required, see your coach.
The cost of playing at a Hangtime type of facility is about $215. per team for three games.  A 10 girl roster would be $20. each every time they played in this type of setting and if playing 5 times, over the season, would be $100. for just game costs.
All sponsors who donate $25.00 or more to a team will be advertised on all the teams’ warm-up shirts.  (Deadline applies for print.)

Who does it involve?
- Girls beginning at third grade up to the age of 18; from Farwell.
- Supportive parents that travel with the girls and help the coach.
- Volunteers that coach and assist the team.
- Sponsors that help with the cost.

Where does it take place? (click on “directions” tab for locations)
Practices are usually at one of the Farwell gyms in the evenings or Saturdays and at some local churches in the area that let us use their facilities.  Anytime school is cancelled due to weather our practices are also cancelled.  Tournaments can be all over the state.  Younger teams play mainly in Central Michigan areas and older teams may travel further.

When does it happen?
Tryouts are the first weekend in December and practices can begin soon after and runs until the end of your teams’ season (which varies depending on each team).  Practices take place in evenings a couple nights a week.
Tournaments start after the first of the year and can go up to spring break.  They can be Saturday and/or Sunday but varies per team.
Practice and Tournaments are usually set up in advance for planning.  A calendar will be distributed by each coach to their team.

Why would people want to be involved?
The program has been a great success for many girls in central Michigan.  They not only gain skills and knowledge in basketball, but also:  Team Work - Determination - Work Ethic - Respect - Pride - Responsibility!!  Not to mention, meet new people, make lots of great friends and have a lot of fun!  The better high school athletes are the ones who start at an early age (elementary age) and continue throughout high school.

Does it interfere with school in-season sports?
Each team works around their player’s schools sport.  Whether it is volleyball, dance, cheerleading we will try our best to have practice sessions and game times that will not conflict.  Being involved with Flames does take extra time if your athlete is involved in another school sport but the rewards can be great.

Who is in control of Flames Basketball Club?
Each coach is in control of their team’s selection, practices, game schedules, ordering shirts, fundraising, interacting with parents and the distribution and return of uniforms.  The FLAMES BASKETBALL CLUB is here to kick off  the season, supply uniforms, balls ,etc. and interact with school for gym times for practices and games if needed.  The FLAMES BASKETBALL CLUB also interacts with teams if issues arise that need attention.
